Frequently Asked Questions
F.A.Qs
Knowledge is power. Feel free to ask me anything.
What is a doula?
A doula provides non-medical emotional, physical, and informational support to you and your family before, during, and after birth, helping you feel empowered, supported, and seen every step of the way.
What is a postpartum doula?
A postpartum doula assists after birth; supporting with tasks that the person(s) may need. Such as, washing clothes and folding laundry, light cleaning and preparing meals.
I’m having a c-section, can I still hire you as my doula?
Yes, of course! I am here to provide you with comfort, support and care every step of the way. Contact me!
Do you travel outside of Erie, PA?
Yes! I primarily serve Erie County, including areas like Meadville, North East, and Cambridge Springs. I have traveled as far as Buffalo for services and am happy to travel to Pittsburgh as well. Travel arrangements may vary depending on distance, and any additional travel fees will be discussed upfront.
I also offer virtual consultations, so no matter where you are, we can connect and plan your birth support together.
Do you accept insurance?
I am not yet eligible to bill insurance directly. However, I provide a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Coverage depends on your specific plan.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes information about the service provided, dates, codes, and my provider details. You can submit it to your insurance company to request reimbursement. While reimbursement is not guaranteed, a superbill gives your insurance the documentation they need.
Will Medicaid cover my doula services?
I am not yet billing Medicaid directly. In the future, once I am eligible, I will be able to bill Medicaid for covered services. Until then, all clients pay for services directly and can use superbills for potential reimbursement.
Can commercial insurance help cover costs now?
Because I’m not yet in-network with commercial insurance, clients pay for services directly. Many clients submit superbills to their insurance or use flexible spending accounts (FSA) or health savings accounts (HSA) for reimbursement. Reimbursement is determined by your specific plan.
Do I have to pay upfront?
No, I offer payment plans and sliding scale options to make birth support accessible. You can choose a plan that works best for your budget. I also provide a superbill, which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
